1993 F250 7.3L Turbo Diesel 6-Port Fuel Valve Replacement
The last of the major repairs necessary to the 32 year old truck bought last October. Myriad smaller issues; we call those the "idiosyncrasies" that endear an owner to his old truck. Ha!
The first repair to be made was the glow plugs; the truck won’t start without them, in any weather. The second was the Crankcase Depression Regulator valve, otherwise known as the CDR valve, which functions somewhat like the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve on a gas engine. This last was a “major” repair since the original intake air ducting and filtration had been replaced with a “cold air intake,” a complete hatchet job, which is anything but a cold air intake; still, it meant that the original CDR valve was not an option available to me.
The final repair, the 6-port fuel valve, was certainly “major” with respect to the first two, and I had been putting it off for months.
Here is an overview; excepting the diesel rain shower I took, that would have been too hard on the camera equipment!
Good job John. Channels memories of working on your Toro on the pier!
Pull that connector off of the valve and read Pin 4 to chassis. If it is a short, the wire may have rubbed somewhere between the float and the connector. Is is possible the float is stuck inside the tank, but that is another messy job - not sure if you can access that thing easily.
Congratulations, John. U da Man!!! What a mess!
