I'm quite suspicious that the Progressive response is based on virtue signaling and an "we got caught, so let's try to backtrack and issue a condescending statement."
Both sides are guilty of using inflammatory rhetoric; mist of it comes from the Progressive Elites. They FAFO'ed and got caught.
Actions have consequences and no one wants to accept just penalties.

Democrat leaders, Hillary for example, Biden, have made a point of demonizing and dehumanizing large segments of the population, the supporters of their political opponents. That I think, is something new to political discourse.
