Newsletter #268 2024 July 26 Friday
I take you along on this morning's chores! It's been a good week, milder temps, drier, and all of the animals are happy and healthy. And a roadside truck repair!
Primal Woods
Everything is moving along, the Farmhouse, milling, pigs, chickens, etc. It’s been wet of course, but thankfully we are in a bit of a drier spell. The milling season is humming along at a nice rate.
I got a laugh out of the this meme! I’d prefer a ‘84-’93 Ford F250, 4WD, with the 6.9 or 7.3L International IDI engine, but the math should still hold up. Ha!
So. I’m on the way home from a milling job in Cassopolis yesterday, and suddenly the engine coolant temp goes from the normal range to pegged out in about 10 seconds, steam is rolling out from under the hood, etc. I was able to limp into Dowagiac, which was about 2 miles away, pulled up in front of the The Oil Can, an oil change place, conveniently located near a Napa and two gas stations.
For various reasons, mostly having to do with Ford’s profitability, the “hose” is molded and unique to each engine, has plastic fittings at each end (requiring a special tool for removal), costs a hundred bucks for 20 inches of hose, and was naturally, not in stock at the NAPA. So.
Back and forth from the truck to NAPA a few times, to get pictures, try out parts, etc., and in discussion with the proprietor, we come up with this shade tree mechanic solution, lacking only the shade tree; a foot of 5/8" hose, three stainless steel hose clamps, a 5/8” hose union, and one 5/8” tricky dicky fitting to replace the broken fitting, plus 2 gallons of coolant. Of course I carry everything I can think of to repair both the truck and the sawmill, which you can see here:
Be Prepared. Total cost; $30 at NAPA, plus the two gallons of coolant, and 1.5 hours of my time. Beats calling AAA, and waiting, perhaps days, and paying a lot more for sure. It had been awhile since I’ve been called on to make a roadside repair. Felt good to “git ‘er done.”
It got me home, and now I can effect the permanent repair at my leisure. I topped up the coolant level this morning.
Sawmill Services
I milled for Will yesterday, and it was a great day. We milled four big Sycamore logs, and I think it might have been the first time I had milled Sycamore.
Will was after 8/4 (2 inch slabs), with one-live edge.
Those book-matched slabs will make a nice table, and the job yielded 9 pairs of such slabs. As shown the slabs are 2 inches thick,
8 feet long and 42 inches wide; instant dining room table. No one will be walking off with it, trust me it’s heavy, and no one else will have one; each is truly unique, like a fingerprint.
Four logs yielded 750 board feet of beautiful lumber; thanks Will for the opportunity!
Homestead Rebel Farm
I thought this week I’d just take you with me as I perform the morning chores. See all the animals up close, and what the daily care and feeding amounts to. It’s not as good as being there, but better than still photos and a lot of typing!
Men’s Retreat
As a reminder, our next Men’s Retreat is on the calendar for 12-15 September. And we have now added 2025 dates; 20-23 Feb, 5-8 Jun, and 4-7 Sep. If you or someone you know might be interested, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Farmhouse
We had a cancellation for a Labor Day weekend stay, so check out these pictures, and if you are need a little getaway, make it happen!
News
The details are unfolding regarding the assassination attempt, but, I’m about 100% confident that we will never know it all. The higher powers are totally focused on, and therefore totally focusing us on, the idea that it was simply a case of stem-to-stern incompetence on the part of the Secret Service. The details that are unfolding are exclusively related to the incompetence angle. Don’t believe it for a minute.
Regarding the JFK assassination, I did put up one quote as a Note:
Here is a second quote:
Practically all the Cabinet members of President Kennedy's administration, along with Director J. Edgar Hoover of the FBI and Chief James Rowley of the Secret Service, whose duty it was to protect the life of the President, testified that to their knowledge there was no sign of any conspiracy. To say now that these people, as well as the Commission, suppressed, neglected to unearth, or overlooked evidence of a conspiracy would be an indictment of the entire government of the United States. It would mean the whole structure was absolutely corrupt from top to bottom, with not one person of high or low rank willing to come forward to expose the villany..."
- The Memoirs of Earl Warren, by Earl Warren, p. 367.
The emphasis above is mine; and that my friends, is precisely why we will never be allowed to know the details of the JFK assassination, and why similarly, we will never have the full story of the DJT assassination attempt. The true story, the whole story, is simply to dangerous to share with the serfs.
Books
I’ve started the “book report” on Weapons of Mass Instruction, by Gatto. It’s going to take more time, as reading it caused me to reflect, again, on how I got to be where I am, and what the path looked like along the way. And it brought to mind some of the decisions I’ve made, consciously, subconsciously, and frankly, unconsciously.
All the best, and may God bless you and yours,
John & Geri
